The Global Wellness Institute (GWI) has revealed their latest findings regarding the wellness industry across 145 countries and regions in their study, "The Global Wellness Economy: Country Rankings." This study highlights the size of the healthcare market, the ranking of countries within this market, as well as the proportion of the healthcare economy relative to each country's GDP and per capita healthcare expenditure. It was found that the United States, China, and Germany lead the pack in the global healthcare market.
GWI, which has been monitoring and reporting on the global healthcare economy for 15 years, acknowledges the immense challenge in quantitatively analyzing the global healthcare economy. This involves extensive foundational research, data compilation, and analysis on various healthcare market segments across different countries/regions. The current research project commenced early in 2023, utilizing data from 2019 to 2022, and took a year to compile into a comprehensive report.
According to GWI's latest report, the world's five largest wellness markets, as of 2022, are the United States ($1.773 trillion), China ($0.79 trillion), Germany ($0.269 trillion), Japan (¥0.241 trillion), and the United Kingdom (£0.224 trillion). The report suggests that these countries have established their dominance in the global healthcare market.
The data indicates that the United States maintains its position as the healthcare behemoth, with its market size projected to reach $1.773 trillion in 2022—more than double that of China. The United States also leads in 9 out of the 11 healthcare market segments tracked by GWI.
